Biography of Christopher Cross

Christopher Cross is an American author and rock musician who gained fame with his debut album "Christopher Cross" released in 1980. Born on May 3, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, his real name is Christopher Geppert.

Early Success and Grammy Awards

His debut album "Christopher Cross" earned him five Grammy Awards, including the coveted "big four" awards for Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year.

Theme Song for "Arthur"

In 1981, Christopher Cross wrote and performed the theme song for the popular film "Arthur," starring Liza Minnelli and Dudley Moore. For this song, Cross won an Oscar for Best Original Song and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

Chart-Topping Hits

Cross's songs "Sailing," "Never Be the Same," and "Ride Like the Wind" became chart-toppers. He received three Grammy Awards for "Sailing."

Second Album and Sports Theme

His second album, "Another Page," was released in 1983 and included hits like "Think of Laura," "Swept Away," "No Time For Talk," and "All Right." The song "All Right" was used by CBS Sports as the musical theme for highlights of the 1983 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament final between the University of North Carolina and the University of Houston.

Later Career

While the sales of Cross's album "Another Page" were good, it couldn't replicate the massive success of his debut album. His third album, "Every Turn of the World," released in 1985, was a commercial and critical failure. Despite releasing several more albums and greatest hits compilations, Cross failed to regain his previous level of success.

Continued Performances and New Releases

Cross continued to perform in concerts and various events, although he no longer had the same level of popularity as he did after the release of his first album. In 2000, he released his eighth album, "Red Room," followed by a second greatest hits compilation in 2002. In 2007, Christopher Cross released his Christmas album "A Christopher Cross Christmas" online. In 2008, he completed recording an acoustic album of his hits, titled "The Café Carlyle Sessions." He continues to perform in concerts, with an average of 100 shows per year.
